The Wilson Lab
Jessalyn's Outreach
Jessalyn has focused her outreach on mentoring high school and college students. Feeling she can have a greater impact working with students individually she has dedicated time to mentoring a high schooler through SSMV and an undergraduate through the VINSE REU program.
Working with Mina Aziz
From January to November 2018, Mina Aziz worked in the Wilson Lab under Jessalyn's guidance. As a high schooler at the School for Science and Math at Vanderbilt (SSMV) he worked in the lab once a week during the school year and every day during the summer. He worked closely with Jessalyn to learn relevant lab techniques and eventually contributed to one of her projects. His research focused on elucidating adjuvant synergy. Through this program Jessalyn has found immense joy in shaping young minds and looks forward to collaborating with SSMV more!

Working with Aamina Dandy
Over the summer of 2018 Aamina Dandy worked in the Wilson Lab as a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) student. Jessalyn guided her through her project - investigating the effect of polymers on inflammasome activation. Jessalyn taught Aamina the relevant lab techniques giving her the tools necessary to run experiments independently and make significant progress on the project. This led to a "Best Poster" award at the VINSE REU poster competition, and a co-authorship on a recently submitted paper! This rewarding experience has instilled in Jessalyn the desire to continue mentoring!
