Kyle completed his graduate work in Microbiology and Immunology in the laboratory of Eric Skaar at Vanderbilt University. He studied the role of the receptor for advanced glycation end-products (RAGE) in response to Acinetobacter baumannii infection.  His undergraduate research in Janet Schottel's laboratory looked into identifying proteins that enable Escherichia coli to survive desiccation-induced stress.

Outside of his research in the Wilson lab, Kyle enjoys camping and backpacking, competing on his weekly trivia team, and traveling/exploring new places.
